Jill Stoddart, senior manager of product management and Lance Spratt, Windows licensing lead, both of AWS, recently presented at AWS re:Invent regarding, “How to Bring Microsoft Apps to AWS to Unlock Your Budget.” The session covered licensing models on AWS, opportunities to Bring Your Own License (BYOL), and how all of this impacts your overall software budget.

SoftwareONE helps our clients day-in and dayout on how to best manage contracts and licensing across a myriad vendors. SoftwareONE Microsoft Advisory Services often works closely with enterprise organizations looking at their Enterprise Agreement (EA) renewals, to navigate complex licensing situations. As many of our clients are now moving on-premises workloads to the cloud, and even managing a multi-cloud environment, it becomes even more important to understand how to manage those assets.

SoftwareONE was highlighted during the session as the first AWS Microsoft competency partner to offer a Microsoft workloads optimization Proof of Concept (PoC). The first step is to analyze the software licensing assets available, and how they can be leveraged for on-premises workloads and in AWS. The goal is to determine how to maximize those existing licensing assets in AWS. As this PoC is generally offered during the EA renewal time period, the project also helps clients design for the future by determining how to manage your existing and future Microsoft contracts.  The end goal is to save you money and optimize the use of your licenses to enable your confident adoption of AWS.
